These Are A Few Of My Favourite Things: NOVEMBER 2019

Seriously… it’s December?! How on earth is there only a few weeks until Christmas, a few weeks until a new decade, and a few weeks left of work until we get to relax and play! Wow

🌅Terrigal getaway

There’s nothing quite like a little weekend getaway. When life gets so crazy and you’re living hour by hour, sometimes you need to remove yourself from reality and explore somewhere unknown. Despite growing up in Port Stephens, I’d never ventured to Terrigal or the Central Coast. So when Soph and I finally had a free weekend that lined up, we knew we wanted to getaway. So why not somewhere only 2 hours away with gorgeous beaches, national parks, great bars and even better restaurants. Terrigal really is a holiday town and nothing says ‘relaxed’ more than fish n chips, 3 hour dinners, lolly shops, and soaking up some sun and getting lost in a book. Reset and refreshed.

🎓 Soph’s grad

The day finally came that we got to celebrate Soph’s graduation! My girl is a clever cookie, and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce – Bachelor of Arts (Distinction) earlier this year. Graduation is such an exciting time and it’s important to recognise (and adequately celebrate) the hard work and dedication it takes to complete a degree. I’m so damn proud of Soph for all of her hard work. I know she’s going a long way and I can’t wait to see the path she forges for herself.

🏙️Sydney sesh

If anyone knows me, they know I’m a huge fangirl of Shameless Podcast. So when I heard there was a live show in Sydney, I knew I had to go! So my friend Vanessa battled for some tickets (these are some popular gals) and we were heading to the show. Us, along with 800 strangers, gathered that rainy Sydney night, to engage in a similar conversation we’ve been listening to every Monday morning for nearly 2 years. I must admit, it was pretty damn exciting. Zara and Michelle have done an incredible job to build their company and a highly engaged following. It was awesome to soak up some strong female vibes.

And what’s a night out in Sydney without sharing cocktails with my beautiful friend Tishia. We went to a sneaky gin bar that played smooth jazz and sipped on fancy cocktails. We got delish woodfire pizza and giggled the night away. The next day we headed to Burwood to go shopping and eat bulk Chinese food. Chinatown there is next level and we found ourselves some delicious treats. It’s weekends like this that I live for. Running from one event to the next, soaking up all the good vibes, good food (and good alcohol), and even though I’m left absolutely exhausted, they’re amazing!

📷Work

This month I was lucky enough to do the socials for the Fellowships and Alumni Awards Dinner. I was working with a great group of people who are talented, driven and so damn nice. I also got to meet some incredible people (check me out on Linkedin for more), and it got me thinking about how lucky I am to work with people who are working to connect one another and make the world a better place.

Inside the Big Day Out
This mini series is a must for all music fans! It will leave you looking up Pearl Jam’s greatest hits and want to jump around in a mosh pit. This is an incredible insight behind the scenes of one of the world’s biggest music festivals that defined Australian culture and music. Pretty devastated that I didn’t attend one of these festivals myself – I was busy being punky at Soundwave – but wow, Big Day Out in the 90s would have been incredible!

Conversations with friends, by Sally Rooney
Yes yes yes! I loved this book so bloody much! I picked this up from the university book shop, and found that it was prescribed reading for an English Literature subject. So I figured it would be alright, but boy did I underestimate how incredible this would be! I smashed it out in a few days and I am so stoked. I was intrigued, hooked, angry, wanted to shake the characters through the pages, and be invited to the parties… I loved it and would absolutely recommend it!

🎥Flicks

Flying the Nest
I know I’ve mentioned them on the blog several times before, but…. OMG they’re having a baby and I’ve never been more emotional watching a baby announcement vlog! I love their videos, their relationship and their outlook on life. And I’m so excited to see their vlogs leading up to having the baby, and watching their journey as a young travelling family!

Season 3, The Crown
I’m sure I’m not the first to admit that I was a bit skeptical about this season with a new lead actress, but OMG wow, get onto it asap! It’s much like season 1 with big, historical events unfolding throughout the season. Olivia Coleman is incredible and I’ve loved having a spare few hours to binge a few episodes immersed in the world of the royals.

Old School Arctic Monkeys
So after taking a deep dive through rock history by listening to ‘Inside the Big Day Out,’ I became consumed by old school Arctic Monkeys. I’m not going to lie, I first got into them in 2013 with their AM album (yep amazing album) and I never really went back through their old stuff. So I’ve lately become obsessed with old school Arctic Monkeys and wow… I’m even more in love. Seeing them at the start of the year was amazing, and I’m so glad they’ve a band that continues to grow, evolve and produce bloody good music.

📝Quote

The law of attraction is something I truly believe in. You get what you give. The universe doesn’t owe you anything, so you might as well treat people with kindness, radiate happiness and keep a positive outlook on life, because you may just get exactly what you want. A frame of mind is one of the most powerful things we can possess. So why not try being happy and see what happens.

OK, so December will disappear before our eyes, and we’ll suddenly be in 2020! So I’m going to try and live in the moment, soak up the beautiful sunshine we have, enjoy the festive season and make the most of what’s left of 2019!

These Are A Few Of My Favourite Things: APRIL 2017

OK Shit. My bad. We’re already a week into May and I’m only just getting around to writing this…. I would love to say I had some epic excuse as to why I haven’t got around to it, but tbh, I just didn’t get around to it. Priorities change and suddenly you find yourself a week into May with the embarrassment of not posting your fave things. I’m sorry I kept you guys hanging. HOWEVER – APRIL was a SICK month! I did lots of awesome and exciting things so I’m excited to dive right into it!

❤️ Friends

I know this is cliche, but this month I’ve spent some truly wonderful times with some truly spectacular people.

🎼 Getting to interview MAYA

Yep – my first real interview. I got to chat to the lovely, talented and girl boss MAYA about music, family, Andre 3000, near death experiences and being a ranga in Australia.

You can read it here.

🌟 Smashing Goals with Anna Johnson-Hill

Lucky me, I got to attend another awesome inspiring dinner party with the lovely Anna Johson-Hill. Not only did we get to have a lovely meal, but we extended on what we talked about in our last dinner party (you can check out what we did last time here). Plus I got to bring my beautiful friend Tishia. It was a very inspiring night, hearing about everyone’s goals, dreams and passions where we all encouraged each other to take that step to get to where we want to be! Make sure you click here to find out more info.

🇦🇺 Sydney

Lucky me – this month I got to spend a lot of time in Sydney with friends and family. We went to Sydney for Mum’s birthday which we spent galavanting around the Rocks, going to performances and eating Indian food. I then went to Surry Hills with my friends Dylan, Tishia and Claire where we drank too many peach slushies and laughed until we cried. I topped it all off with a lunch date in Bondi beach with my fam to farewell my sister before she headed off to Vietnam to go and change lives. Sydney is such a beautiful place to be and it’s always great to be a tourist in your own backyard.

🍻 Dylan

Dylan – if you’re reading this (which you better be). I freakin love you. For those of you who don’t know, Dylan and I have been friends since high school and we both moved down to Wollongong for study. He’s one of my best friends who I know is always there for me and I know he’s always there for me. You’re one of the kindest humans I know and I’m so lucky to have you in my life. Even if you’re hands are weirdly out of proportion. (I don’t think I’ve ever cried so much from laughing).

📚 Books

Jungle – Yossi Ghinsberg. This is a must read book for anyone who loves travel and adventure. It’s based on a true story of a man (Yossi) who gets lost in the Bolivian jungle. It’s soon to be a movie starring Daniel Radcliffe, so make sure to get in ASAP to be that person who read the book before seeing the movie. I literally couldn’t put it down!

🎥 Flicks

‘Girlboss’ it wouldn’t be a summary of my fave flicks without an honourable Netflix TV show. The name gives it away, it is boss af. I think I love it because she’s 23 (the age I’m turning this year) and I’m feel like I’m almost approaching a kind of mid life crisis! It’s about persistence, innovation, and just general struggles of being a millenial.

An Education’ is an uncomfortable, thought provoking drama that is a must see for any young woman. Set in London, 1960’s, it follows the story of a young schoolgirl who falls in love with a much older man. It resonated the importance of education and being an independent woman, which is what I’m all about.

‘Where To Invade Next’ is the perfect entertaining documentary for all of those culture and politics savvy nerds out there (like me). He travels around Europe stealing all of their great ideas whilst bagging the shit out of America, what’s not to love?

🎶 Tunes

The Football Club – Ivy. Damn this song has been absolutely smashed out on Triple J and every single time I never had my phone and couldn’t Shazam it. When I FINALLY discovered who sang it, I couldn’t stop listening. Definitely a contender for my Hottest 100 short list for next year!

Kendrick Lamar – DAMN. The king has finally released his new album and holy shit I’m in love. His music is so damn important and it fills me with emotion, love and anger. Honestly one of the most important albums of 2017.

📷 Bloggers & Vloggers

The Blonde Abroad. This girl has been inspiring me for a very long time, but lately her Instagram has been on freakin point. Her content is super practical and useful for people, especially young women, who are planning their epic holiday adventures. She also gives us some pretty serious travel envy.

Screenshot 2017-05-09 15.17.22

Robert Strok. I’ve only recently come across his content and holy shit – it’s spectacular. The cinematography is world class with beautiful editing and post production effects. I’m not the biggest fan of his personality (most vloggers I get hooked on because of their personality), but he seriously inspires and challenges my filming technique, and that’s why I’m a huge fan of his channel.

📝 Quote

“She believed she could so she did.” Ah this one has really been singing to me lately. It’s all about positive energy and positive vibes. About being proud and believing in yourself – because trust me, people aren’t going to do it for you. It’s about action, about being proactive, taking initiative and taking risks to get to where you want to be. And that’s what I’m all about.

56770c23a9bb5b7241601d5ffb6122a5

What a freakin crazy month! And we’re already a quarter of the way into May which is absolutely terrifying. This month I have an insane amount of assignments due, and really have to get my shit together for Mexico! But bring it on!!! Ain’t nothing going to stop me!

Theses Are A Few Of My Favourite Things: JANUARY 17

Woo Hoooooo. Welcome to 2017! And aren’t we off to a flying start?! Where the hell has time gone?! I swear I blinked and suddenly I was back in Wollongong chilling with my friends, looking back on 2016 like it was all a dream. Luckily for me, it wasn’t a dream and I fortunately experienced so many wonderful things. So without further adieu, let’s recap on the start of 2017 which I can just feel, is already going to be a freakin awesome year.

California: SAN FRANSICO / LOS ANGELES / ROAD TRIP

To get the full scope of everything we did in California (there was a lot) I’d recommend checking out my YouTube video here. But beyond the video, CALIFORNIA IS FREAKIN AMAZING! I can’t wait until I get to go back again.

HAWAII

Absolute paradise. I don’t know if there’s anything else I can really say about Hawaii except the fact that it’s just honestly beautiful. It was so lovely to be back in the heat again! Hawaii was pretty much non stop swimming, eating, exploring and swimming. You can check out my YouTube video here.

DISNEYLAND

OMG…. enough said.

BACK HOME: AUSTRALIA

So I’ve returned home after nearly 7months. It was so amazing seeing my friends and family. You know once you return home after a long time away, and your headspace is just so positive? It was so awesome to apply my new found outlook on life to life back in Australia. I think it makes me much more excited and grateful for everyone I know and everything I have here in Australia.  At the moment I’m currently looking for a place to live in Wollongong, so hopefully by the next time you check into this blog, I will have found one and I’ll be showing you around!

DCIM101GOPRO
Beautiful Port Stephens – lucky to call this home

TUNES

Amy Shark – Adore. The first time I heard this song was on Australia Day while tuning in to the Hottest 100 on Triple J and OMG I’ve had it on repeat ever since.

Ed Sheeran – Castle on the Hill. The ginger ninja is back! Let’s be honest, this guy kills it every. single. time. And I’m absolutely loving it! I can’t wait for his album to be released!

Films

War Dogs. I watched this film on the plane back to Australia and damn was that actually made my 10 hour flight enjoyable.

Please Like Me. OK So this one isn’t a film, but it’s a freakin addictive Australian show on Netflix! It is millenial comedy/drama at its best! I actually can’t get enough.

Books

I’m happy to say that I actually finished a book this month… and damn was it a great read. I’m a huge fan of Mitch Albom’s after having read his book ‘Tuesday’s with Morrie’ and ‘Five People You Meet in Heaven’ whilst I was at school and I loved them. I picked up this book at the airport in Hawaii and I read it in a week. For anyone who loves music, books and a great story being unravelled in front of you, then this book is for you!

Blogs & Vlogs

Lost LeBlanc. Man, this guy has been killing it lately. His Bali vlogs were on point, his Philippines vlogs were on point and his Panama City vlogs….. DAMN. Honestly, this guy is definitely on his game!

Sawyer Hartman. I’ve been following this guy since I met him at BufferFest in Toronto. His drone shots and cinematography is superb! Plus, when I was in Venice in LA I actually ran into him. It was so cool to meet him and have a chat. PLUS I MADE IT IN THE VLOG! You can check out his video and my cameo below.

So I’m doubling up this month. The first one is be excited about everything. It honestly changes your perspective on everything when you get excited about things you’re doing or people you’re going out with! I’d recommend it.

And the second one is definitely related to the first, but also to always remember to be inspired and grateful, but to surround myself with people who share the same values.

Alrighty, so that’s my month wrapped up. Watch this space for some exciting things to come!

Stuck on Repeat: Top Artists from 2014

Music is my life! I think if my family had to pick a phrase that I’m always saying it would be either ‘awesome’ or ‘ah, this is the best song.’ I listen to music all day everyday, in the shower, before I go to sleep, pre-drinks, cleaning my room, eating dinner, and there’s always a song to get me pumped, relaxed or motivated. This year I’ve been dipping into a few different genres and discovering some awesome artists worth the click over to youtube!

Vital to the soul
Vital to the soul

1- Bastille – One of my all time favourite bands! I’ve been loving them for about two years and have seen them twice in concert (in Munich and Sydney and I cried both times). This year I’ve been loving their mixes and covers of songs, especially No Angels below.

2 – Asgeir – He’s Icelandic! And thus began my love for his smooth smooth voice. His album In the Silence is excellent! Perfect for when you need a good chill sesh! It’s my go to album when I need to relax to go to sleep, taking me to the sweetest dreams. I unfortunately missed out on seeing him due to date clashes, but he’s on my radar to see live! Below is his cover of Milky Chance’s Stolen Dance (which personally I think it on parr if not better than the original).

3- Violent Soho – Rad Aussie rock band who I was lucky enough to see in concert. Their whole album is filled with solid tunes and I love listening to it when cruising around in my car or when I feel like a grungy chill (i.e ‘cleaning’ my room).

4 – Banks – Very cool, fragile and unique voice, combined with a dirty rhythm… LOVE IT! Loving this London lady. I first discovered her EP and can genuinely say, this was the first album I was extremely excited to see be released!

5- George Ezra – Also great to listen to whilst cruising around, belting out tunes and experimenting with how low your voice goes. At first listen, I wasn’t sold, but it definitely grew on me. And hard! Now I absolutely crave hearing his smooth, sexy, deep and husky voice! Not to mention, he’s very cute! His entire album puts me in a great, positive and motivated mood!

6- Miguel – So sometimes, I love to get down and dirty and feel sexy dancing to some smooth rnb. And I was very excited when I learned he released some new music this year!

7- Taylor Swift – I’m admitting this with mixed feelings. I really do not like her song Shake it off, at all. But the rest of her album, pretty damn catchy! This is the one guilty pleasure I’ll allow myself! Her quirkiness is definitely growing on me and it leaves me thinking I too can look kinda cute whilst stumbling around trying to dance!

8- Sticky Fingers – Aussie reggae, rock, chilled band that leaves you wanting to be on a beach with a few beers and your mates! Fun, happy and chilled!

What are some of your picks from 2014? Let me know in the comments below because I’m always ready to discover new music!

Happy Listening!

Summer Lovin’ (The Best Things About Summer in Australia)

It’s officially Summer here in Australia and I couldn’t be more excited! There’s parties to go to, people to see, food to eat (and lots of it), places to go… it’s just three months of sunshine and good times! I missed out on an Aussie Summer last year (instead, spent the majority of it Eastern Europe and Iceland in the middle of Winter), so here’s the things I’m most looking forward to this Sun Season!

Taking some Australian traditions to London
Taking some Australian traditions to London

Fresh and Delicious Fruit – Mangoes, watermelon, honeydew, grapes, bananas, pineapple, strawberries… with a bit of muesli and a drizzle of honey, it makes for the perfect summer snack! And speaking of fresh fruit, try cutting the top off of a watermelon and pouring in some Midori and Malibu… perfect for an afternoon spent on the beach with a few drinks. Hey, at least it’s healthy!

The Beach – What is Summer without spending the majority of it at the beach! My hometown is the perfect place to do this, with over 10 pristine beaches located within a 10 minute drive from my house (and one across the road). Just remember to Slip, Slop, Slap, drink plenty of water and be prepared for sand to be EVERYWHERE!

Australia Day with mates
Australia Day with mates

Christmas – Yes, in Australia Christmas is in the middle of Summer, and it’s brilliant! A typical Christmas day for me involves being woken up at some ghastly hour by my younger brother and sister, opening presents, giving presents, snacking on some chocolate, and saving our stomaches for a big lunch at Grandma and Grandad’s house with the whole family! After our food babies settle down, we duck down to the beach and soak up the sun. It’s a pretty brilliant way to spend Christmas!

It’s hot – OK so sometimes this can be the bad thing about Summer. I’m a red headed girl with a pale complexion, I was not made for 40+ degree days. A nice 28-30 degrees is perfect for me!

Never gets old
Never gets old

Minimal clothing is totally acceptable – When you’ve got a scorcher of a day, it’s completely acceptable to walk around in your bikini everywhere. Minimal clothing is great, especially when checking out all the hotties at the beach, until some 60 year old men decide to wear their speedos and your eyes a permanently scarred.

I get a tan – Ok, by tan I mean all my freckles come out. Even though I’m constantly reminded of how white I am, I can see I’ve got a fair bit of a tan going on (if I squint really hard and don’t forget to apply my tanning moisturiser).

Sunsets are beautiful
Sunsets are beautiful

New Years Eve – I love New Years Eve in Australia! Don’t need to take a jacket out, everyone’s drinking ice cold beers, we go out on a friends boat, watch the fireworks and then go for a midnight swim.

Australia Day – Australia Day is on the 26th of January and is generally celebrated at the beach or a friends house with a pool, listening to Triple J’s top 100 countdown, drinking beer and hanging out with good friends!

Everyone’s happy – It’s Summer, what’s there not to be happy about!
