These Are A Few Of My Favourite Things: JULY 2019

I was recently reminded that I begin each of these posts with ‘omg where did this month go?’ so, I’ll begin this post in a different way. JULY IS MY FAVOURITE MONTH BECAUSE IT’S MY BIRTHDAY MONTH AND YAY WHAT A GREAT MONTH IT WAS! Excitement much?! But seriously, there’s something extremely exciting about birthdays and officially turning one year older. And for me, that number is now sitting at the ripe old age of 25! Yep! 25! I know that my skin care routine is good enough that I don’t look 25 but yes, 25 years of experiences making me the wise young woman I am! So you know sooner or later there will be a ’25 things I’ve learnt in 25 years’ blog post coming, but for now, here’s a recap on the month of July!

🍷Adelaide

No I’m not talking about myself, I’m talking about the amazing long weekend that Soph and I had in the city of churches, Adelaide, South Australia! There’s nothing like taking a long weekend, and there’s nothing better when that aligns with you 25th birthday, a music festival and prime wine season! For four nights we partied our way around Adelaide and had the best freakin time! If you’re getting itchy feet and feeling like an escape, then I’d strongly recommend getting out there and exploring our own back yard. It’s simply beautiful!

🎉 Birthday shenanigans

When you turn 25, I think you’re entitled to a birthday month right? Well I am super grateful for all of the amazing people who showed up for my 25th birthday bash, drank way too much with me, and stopped by to give me a cuddle, share a dance, take a polaroid picture and eat burgers!

💼 Amazing work environment

July means, mid-year celebrations. I am incredibly lucky to work with such amazing people (who also happen to enjoy lunch and a good time!) Whilst in both of my teams we celebrated the mid-year point in different ways, it’s amazing to be surrounded by strong, driven, motivational, fun, intelligent colleagues who also happen to be wine enthusiasts.

🎵Tunes

Banks
She’s back! YES! Finally! I’m telling you, when she comes to Australia, I will be there with bells and whistles on! I have completely been in love with her music since she started out and yes! This album is life!

Soon by Angie McMahon
Yes! Finally an album from the one and only Angie McMahon! And girl does she have some incredible new music!! Soon is an incredible song and I have listened to it literally on repeat, feeling heartbroken, loved and motivated each time I listen to it! I can’t wait to see her on tour soon!

🎞️Flicks

What If
Wow. Renee Zellweger you evil, beautiful thing! I was absolutely addicted to this show! Public service announcement, don’t watch the first episode late on a Sunday night because you will be distracted all day on Monday and race home early to binge watch as much as you can!

❤️ Product

Sukin rosehip oil
Lucky for me, my girlfriend has an amazing skin care routine and introduced me to this product. I use it every night before bed and feel that my skin has dramatically improved, not as many dots and softer skin. Side note, I absolutely love all Sukin products and I would totally recommend jumping on board!

📷 Vloggers, Blogger and Podders

Johnny Harris
I’ve watched Johnny’s videos as a presenter on Vox borders. Finding his YouTube channel has been amazing! I love his style, I always feel smarter after watching his videos and I love the sense of adventure he has. It’s incredibly infectious and makes me want to book a one way ticket!

📝 Quote

So I guess turning 25 has brought on a little ‘quarter life crisis’ joke that doesn’t seem to be letting up anytime soon. With a huge business trip ahead of me, and definitely feeling the pressure, it’s easy to question and doubt what you’re doing. But as I like to say, if it doesn’t scare you, then you’re not pushing yourself. I’ve got this and each day I’m becoming more of the person I’m meant to be. And in all seriousness, I am wildly capable, I’ve got this and I can absolutely do it.

Well July, you were by far one of my favourite months! For a month that was so jam packed, I feel like I don’t have a lot to show for it compared to other months (um hello where are all my pictures), but I think it’s because it was spent with amazing people, creating amazing memories and just making the most of being alive! Bring on August!

These Are A Few Of My Favourite Things: AUGUST 16

So I think I can officially say that August has literally been the craziest month ever! I’ve actually lost track of where I’ve been and what I’ve done – thank god for journal entries and Insta posts… But before I get stuck into it – August has been an absolute whirlwind. Something that I think I’m paying for now (I’m a bit run down and sick at the moment). So it’s always important to take care of yourself so you don’t burn out. OK – without further ado…. I present to you my incredible month of AUGUST!!!!

SPAIN

Believe it or not I started this month in San Sebastian, Spain. It was the first time I’ve ever been and I was lucky enough to be travelling with my Dad at this point. San Sebastian was literally like a fairytale come to life. The most vividly blue water, crowded lively and buzzing tapas bars and the best sangria I’ve ever had! A highlight was probably SURFING! The beach we stayed near is famous for it’s surf so it was pretty cool to rent a board for an hour and paddle out without having to worry about sharks!

Barcelona

Another incredible city that I’d never been to! Barcelona was an absolute whirlwind! The architecture is unlike anything I’ve ever seen before! I felt like I was walking through a Tim Burton film most of the time!

PARIS

After Barcelona we flew to my favourite city of all time… PARIS! There’s not enough words in the world to describe just how much I love this place! We stayed in an AirBnb in Abbesses (click here to see). It was in the best location, right under the Sacre Coeur, with bars, boulangeries, markets and restaurants surrounding us. I felt like an actual Parisienne living there, which is pretty much the dream!

For me- Paris isn’t about the museums, galleries, monuments etc (although they definitely do add to the experience). But it’s the atmosphere. That beautiful immersion in French culture, history and way of life. To me, that’s absolutely magical.

However, it was my Dad’s first time in Paris… so I got to play tour guide (and I think I did a pretty damn good job). We walked absolutely everywhere, ate baguettes with every meal and enjoyed incredible food.

ICELAND

Round 2 in Iceland and dayum this place knows how to make someone happy! We rented a car (which is an absolute must for Iceland) and drove around the Ring Road and just pulled over whenever we saw something awesome. I’m talking, waterfalls, plane wrecks, more waterfalls and glaciers.

The highlight of Iceland was probably Vestmannaeyjar. It’s an island about 30 minutes from the mainland and is probably one of the most wild places I’ve ever been. The hiking was incredible and the views were literally breathtaking!

MONTRÉAL

The time finally came where I touched down in Montréal! Woo! It’s so surreal when something has been months in the making and then it finally happens. All that hard work pays off… and then you come to the realisation – shit. I’m in a new city, new country and don’t know anyone… You can read about my first impressions of Montréal here but after being here for a few weeks… this place is AMAZING!!!

My housemate is cool af, I’ve made countless friends, drank waaaaaay too much alcohol and just am all round having a great time.

TUNES

This month it’s been kind of hard to keep on track with new music, but there’s no way in the world I would miss new music from BANKS! OMG finally! I’m absolutely in love and I’m just hanging out for the album to be released!

Just A Gent

I’ve been trying to keep on top of my Like A Versions but when I heard this my mind was blown!!! It’s so sick I really don’t have many more words….

FLICKS

Same as July, I haven’t really had the chance to watch many films… but I’ll get there. Instead, like always I’ve been binge watching Netflix, and this is definitely a huge advantage to being in Canada! The Canadian Netflix is awesome!

I smashed out Season 2 of How to Get Away With Murder in nearly a weekend and OMG if you can start this show without smashing it out in a weekend then I’m very impressed with your self control.

QUOTES

I think this one is extremely relevant to my life at the moment. I guess when you have a lot of spare time and find yourself chilling alone, it’s easy to forget what you’re passionate about. You kind of get caught up in other things. This quote has motivated me to get out there, introduce myself, make mistakes, make a fool of myself, make friends and get in there. When you do the things you love and are truly passionate about, your heart and soul will be absolutely raging… so do it.

OK – What a month! I can’t believe I somehow made it from Spain to Canada! I’m sooooo looking forward to September. For classes to start and meet even more people and have many more exciting, scary and daring adventures!

These Are A Few of My Favourite Things: August

The last month of Winter! Winter I love you, but I won’t miss you at all.

Running the City2Surf. Something I’d only been dreading for months finally happened and I couldn’t have been happier at the finish line! Just helps motivate me to push my comfort zone and never stop daring to achieve something great!

Banks. Goddess. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, this album is the real deal! Definitely helping me get through those study blues.

Sad airport trips. This month we had to say adieu to two of our favourite English exchange students. These boys know how much we’ll always love them, but it really does suck not seeing them every morning and every night. I look at the photo below and am so grateful for everyone’s unconditional friendship. You guys make me feel at home, safe and completely loved. Cheesy I know but deal with it.

Adventures with the family. Sadly I don’t get to see my family all that much. So when they come and visit for the weekend, we truly have the best time. We went out to the Sea Cliff Bridge which is an absolute must! Plus a lovely tour of Wollongong’s best restaurants and bars. Please come and visit more!

How to Be Parisian. One of the most beautiful little books that I own. For more reasons why I love it, read here.

My favourite French things; Coco Chanel Mademoiselle, red and black nailpolish and my gold plated Pierre Laniere watch I bought in Paris for my 19th birthday.

Orange is the New Black. I have a problem. I’m addicted. Like seriously. I watched 2 seasons in just under two weeks. For anyone that’s been thinking about checking it out and has put it off (like I was) DO IT!!! Though it’s definitely not recommended during the middle of session when you have a million assignments due. But honestly, it’s such a quality show and I’m loving it!

So that’s about it from me. I’ve been ridiculously busy with work and uni so I’m glad I got to squeeze in this much excitement. September is looking even more scary with many assignments due but… just keep pushing on!

Stuck on Repeat: Top Artists from 2014

Music is my life! I think if my family had to pick a phrase that I’m always saying it would be either ‘awesome’ or ‘ah, this is the best song.’ I listen to music all day everyday, in the shower, before I go to sleep, pre-drinks, cleaning my room, eating dinner, and there’s always a song to get me pumped, relaxed or motivated. This year I’ve been dipping into a few different genres and discovering some awesome artists worth the click over to youtube!

Vital to the soul
Vital to the soul

1- Bastille – One of my all time favourite bands! I’ve been loving them for about two years and have seen them twice in concert (in Munich and Sydney and I cried both times). This year I’ve been loving their mixes and covers of songs, especially No Angels below.

2 – Asgeir – He’s Icelandic! And thus began my love for his smooth smooth voice. His album In the Silence is excellent! Perfect for when you need a good chill sesh! It’s my go to album when I need to relax to go to sleep, taking me to the sweetest dreams. I unfortunately missed out on seeing him due to date clashes, but he’s on my radar to see live! Below is his cover of Milky Chance’s Stolen Dance (which personally I think it on parr if not better than the original).

3- Violent Soho – Rad Aussie rock band who I was lucky enough to see in concert. Their whole album is filled with solid tunes and I love listening to it when cruising around in my car or when I feel like a grungy chill (i.e ‘cleaning’ my room).

4 – Banks – Very cool, fragile and unique voice, combined with a dirty rhythm… LOVE IT! Loving this London lady. I first discovered her EP and can genuinely say, this was the first album I was extremely excited to see be released!

5- George Ezra – Also great to listen to whilst cruising around, belting out tunes and experimenting with how low your voice goes. At first listen, I wasn’t sold, but it definitely grew on me. And hard! Now I absolutely crave hearing his smooth, sexy, deep and husky voice! Not to mention, he’s very cute! His entire album puts me in a great, positive and motivated mood!

6- Miguel – So sometimes, I love to get down and dirty and feel sexy dancing to some smooth rnb. And I was very excited when I learned he released some new music this year!

7- Taylor Swift – I’m admitting this with mixed feelings. I really do not like her song Shake it off, at all. But the rest of her album, pretty damn catchy! This is the one guilty pleasure I’ll allow myself! Her quirkiness is definitely growing on me and it leaves me thinking I too can look kinda cute whilst stumbling around trying to dance!

8- Sticky Fingers – Aussie reggae, rock, chilled band that leaves you wanting to be on a beach with a few beers and your mates! Fun, happy and chilled!

What are some of your picks from 2014? Let me know in the comments below because I’m always ready to discover new music!
