These Are A Few Of My Favourite Things: JANUARY 2020

Hello twenty-twenty!! Wow what a crazy start to the new year and new decade. I think I can safely speak for many Australians when I say that the new year has been off to a bit of a rocky start. Bushfires ravaged the country causing waves of loss and devastation. Being within close proximity of the South Coast, it was especially difficult. But if this has taught us anything, it’s that the power of community will always win. People will band together through tough times and overcome the most awful challenges. Feeling inspired by the strength of our communities during this difficult time, it encouraged me to be grateful for the people around me and make the most of everything that came my way. January has been a crazy month and we’ve finally made it through. So before we move onto February, let’s take a look back at the month that was.

🎭 Opera antics

There’s nothing quite like a fancy night out at the Opera, and who better to take than your Mum. We saw La Boheme at the Sydney Opera House and it was simply amazing! The power of their voices was absolutely breathtaking and it was a beautiful night to take in such talent (and spend a night out in Sydney!) And to top it all off, we grabbed brekky with the lovely Miss Tishia. Thanks for such a special night Mum! I love you!

🔥Hottest 100

Grab your coolest mates, crack open some tinnies and pump up the jam! My favourite thing about the hottest 100 weekend is grabbing some friends enjoying some beers and getting up to a few antics. Thank you to my beautiful friends for getting around a good time and rocking out to the best music of the year!

The Circle
This show is ADDICTIVE! Wow. Schedule this for your next hangover day and it will satisfy your every trashy desire. It’s oddly wholesome and will have you questioning all of your online relationships, and have you thinking about what your profile picture really says about you.

Sex Education, Season 2
Yasssss! The long awaited return of the fabulous Sex Education has arrived! I was seriously laughing out loud in the first episode and found myself laughing, crying and completely invested in these characters. I love the raw awkwardness and authenticity of this show, and if you love to cringe at sex encounters, then you’ll love it too.

She’s On The Money
It’s back baby! It’s pretty exciting to listen to a podcast targeted towards young women who, really for the first time and delving into finances and what our financial goals are. The biggest thing I’ve learnt from this podcast was to have what I call, ‘an adult account,’ which came in handy when I had to pay $5000 to have my wisdom teeth removed (more on that in next month’s post). Bottom line, if you want to learn more about money and what you want to get out of it, this podcast is for you.

📚Books

The Pearl Thief, Fiona McIntosh
This is a nice read, a fictionalised history book that tells the story of a woman recovering from atrocities of WWII. It’s a little bit cliche, but if you’re interested in WWII, a mystery and a precious family heirloom, this is for you.

Pachinko, by Min Jin Lee
Wow, wow, wow! This is an incredible book and I CANNOT get enough! I absolutely smashed through this book, despite it following several generations over its generous 500+ pages. Additionally, this book and sparked my absolute obsession with South Korea! I have been looking up flights and I tell you, it’s now number one on my bucket list! I can’t wait to go (hopefully some day soon). Such a great book and I would absolutely recommend it!

🎵Tunes

Dominos, Northeast Party House
This has been my pump up song for the past few weeks, and I love it! It makes me want to get out

🛍️Product

Drunk Elephant – Whipped Cream
For Christmas I was treated to a mini pack of drunk elephant products. And wow this moisturiser is AMAZING! It’s a shame that the full size is a whopping $92 (I thought about it and then thought, what the hell am I doing even thinking about spending $90 on moisturiser!) but wow! Maybe if I’m lucky Santa will hear my wishes and bring me the big bottle next Christmas!

📝Quotes

Stepping into a new year can be daunting. With lots of new opportunities comes a lot of new options. And it can be overwhelming, but you can’t make plans for things that haven’t happened yet. You can only do what’s in front of you, and take one step at a time. Don’t beat yourself up if you can’t do everything at once.

Take one step at a time

January, thank you – you seemed to go on forever, but I hope February brings equal excitement and opportunities!

Theses Are A Few Of My Favourite Things: JANUARY 17

Woo Hoooooo. Welcome to 2017! And aren’t we off to a flying start?! Where the hell has time gone?! I swear I blinked and suddenly I was back in Wollongong chilling with my friends, looking back on 2016 like it was all a dream. Luckily for me, it wasn’t a dream and I fortunately experienced so many wonderful things. So without further adieu, let’s recap on the start of 2017 which I can just feel, is already going to be a freakin awesome year.

California: SAN FRANSICO / LOS ANGELES / ROAD TRIP

To get the full scope of everything we did in California (there was a lot) I’d recommend checking out my YouTube video here. But beyond the video, CALIFORNIA IS FREAKIN AMAZING! I can’t wait until I get to go back again.

HAWAII

Absolute paradise. I don’t know if there’s anything else I can really say about Hawaii except the fact that it’s just honestly beautiful. It was so lovely to be back in the heat again! Hawaii was pretty much non stop swimming, eating, exploring and swimming. You can check out my YouTube video here.

DISNEYLAND

OMG…. enough said.

BACK HOME: AUSTRALIA

So I’ve returned home after nearly 7months. It was so amazing seeing my friends and family. You know once you return home after a long time away, and your headspace is just so positive? It was so awesome to apply my new found outlook on life to life back in Australia. I think it makes me much more excited and grateful for everyone I know and everything I have here in Australia.  At the moment I’m currently looking for a place to live in Wollongong, so hopefully by the next time you check into this blog, I will have found one and I’ll be showing you around!

Beautiful Port Stephens – lucky to call this home

TUNES

Amy Shark – Adore. The first time I heard this song was on Australia Day while tuning in to the Hottest 100 on Triple J and OMG I’ve had it on repeat ever since.

Ed Sheeran – Castle on the Hill. The ginger ninja is back! Let’s be honest, this guy kills it every. single. time. And I’m absolutely loving it! I can’t wait for his album to be released!

Films

War Dogs. I watched this film on the plane back to Australia and damn was that actually made my 10 hour flight enjoyable.

Please Like Me. OK So this one isn’t a film, but it’s a freakin addictive Australian show on Netflix! It is millenial comedy/drama at its best! I actually can’t get enough.

Books

I’m happy to say that I actually finished a book this month… and damn was it a great read. I’m a huge fan of Mitch Albom’s after having read his book ‘Tuesday’s with Morrie’ and ‘Five People You Meet in Heaven’ whilst I was at school and I loved them. I picked up this book at the airport in Hawaii and I read it in a week. For anyone who loves music, books and a great story being unravelled in front of you, then this book is for you!

Blogs & Vlogs

Lost LeBlanc. Man, this guy has been killing it lately. His Bali vlogs were on point, his Philippines vlogs were on point and his Panama City vlogs….. DAMN. Honestly, this guy is definitely on his game!

Sawyer Hartman. I’ve been following this guy since I met him at BufferFest in Toronto. His drone shots and cinematography is superb! Plus, when I was in Venice in LA I actually ran into him. It was so cool to meet him and have a chat. PLUS I MADE IT IN THE VLOG! You can check out his video and my cameo below.

So I’m doubling up this month. The first one is be excited about everything. It honestly changes your perspective on everything when you get excited about things you’re doing or people you’re going out with! I’d recommend it.

And the second one is definitely related to the first, but also to always remember to be inspired and grateful, but to surround myself with people who share the same values.

Alrighty, so that’s my month wrapped up. Watch this space for some exciting things to come!

Australia Day

Proud Australian
Proud Australian

Whilst we celebrate with our mates and loved ones over some drinks and a BBQ, take a minute to be grateful of how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful country. Where equality and education are valued, and we are encouraged to follow our dreams.

Summer Lovin’ (The Best Things About Summer in Australia)

It’s officially Summer here in Australia and I couldn’t be more excited! There’s parties to go to, people to see, food to eat (and lots of it), places to go… it’s just three months of sunshine and good times! I missed out on an Aussie Summer last year (instead, spent the majority of it Eastern Europe and Iceland in the middle of Winter), so here’s the things I’m most looking forward to this Sun Season!

Taking some Australian traditions to London
Taking some Australian traditions to London

Fresh and Delicious Fruit – Mangoes, watermelon, honeydew, grapes, bananas, pineapple, strawberries… with a bit of muesli and a drizzle of honey, it makes for the perfect summer snack! And speaking of fresh fruit, try cutting the top off of a watermelon and pouring in some Midori and Malibu… perfect for an afternoon spent on the beach with a few drinks. Hey, at least it’s healthy!

The Beach – What is Summer without spending the majority of it at the beach! My hometown is the perfect place to do this, with over 10 pristine beaches located within a 10 minute drive from my house (and one across the road). Just remember to Slip, Slop, Slap, drink plenty of water and be prepared for sand to be EVERYWHERE!

Christmas – Yes, in Australia Christmas is in the middle of Summer, and it’s brilliant! A typical Christmas day for me involves being woken up at some ghastly hour by my younger brother and sister, opening presents, giving presents, snacking on some chocolate, and saving our stomaches for a big lunch at Grandma and Grandad’s house with the whole family! After our food babies settle down, we duck down to the beach and soak up the sun. It’s a pretty brilliant way to spend Christmas!

It’s hot – OK so sometimes this can be the bad thing about Summer. I’m a red headed girl with a pale complexion, I was not made for 40+ degree days. A nice 28-30 degrees is perfect for me!

Never gets old
Never gets old

Minimal clothing is totally acceptable – When you’ve got a scorcher of a day, it’s completely acceptable to walk around in your bikini everywhere. Minimal clothing is great, especially when checking out all the hotties at the beach, until some 60 year old men decide to wear their speedos and your eyes a permanently scarred.

I get a tan – Ok, by tan I mean all my freckles come out. Even though I’m constantly reminded of how white I am, I can see I’ve got a fair bit of a tan going on (if I squint really hard and don’t forget to apply my tanning moisturiser).

Sunsets are beautiful

New Years Eve – I love New Years Eve in Australia! Don’t need to take a jacket out, everyone’s drinking ice cold beers, we go out on a friends boat, watch the fireworks and then go for a midnight swim.

Australia Day – Australia Day is on the 26th of January and is generally celebrated at the beach or a friends house with a pool, listening to Triple J’s top 100 countdown, drinking beer and hanging out with good friends!

Everyone’s happy – It’s Summer, what’s there not to be happy about!
