These Are A Few Of My Favourite Things: JANUARY 2021

New year, new me! Just kidding, I quite like the me I’m becoming and turning into. The beginning of a new year is the perfect time to reflect and set goals for the year, and it’s pretty incredible to see how much I’ve grown and how far I’ve come in 12 months. It’s usually a result of a significant life event that results in growth and change, well, at least recognising it. But what’s even more surprising is looking back on how far I’ve come during the ‘unprecedented’ year we had and thinking ‘yea baby!’

I think it’s one of the greatest joys in life, to feel like you’re growing into and creating the best version of yourself. It’s even better when the people around you bring out the best of you too. I’m not sure if it’s the new ink I have, the adventure I’ve just been on, the people around me I love or the things I hope to achieve this year, but damn I feel good. So G’day, I’m Adelaide, I’m totally feeling myself at the moment and cautiously sliding into 2021 with my best foot forward.

Tattoo time

I’ve been waiting for this moment for such a long time and I’ve finally done it! I got a swallow on my arm and the word ‘insouciante’ on my wrist. In January I got a mermaid on the inside of my bicep and some flowers on the back of my arm. When I list them all at once it sounds like a lot but they’re ones I’ve been planning for a very long time. I just finally bit the bullet and got them done! It’s strange how much more ‘me’ I feel after getting them. I think that’s why I love tattoos (and might have a few more planned). It’s a way to express yourself and show the world who you really are, what you like, what’s important to you and that you’re confident enough to be unapologetically YOU!

Friend Christmas

There’s nothing quite like getting your nearest and dearest together for some food, wine and good times. After the crazy year of 2020 we had it was so nice to spend an afternoon soaking up all the wholesome vibes! I don’t know what I would’ve done without these amazing people in 2020 and I’m so excited to see what comes our way in 2021.

Family time

The best thing about Christmas time is spending an extending period of time with loved ones. Over this period I was lucky enough to celebrate my Nan’s 80th birthday and spend Christmas with my beautiful Grandma and Grandad.
It was a much overdue break after a hectic year and I loved being able to chill out with my family, eat, drink, catch up with friends and take some much needed time out.

NSW Roadtrip

Well it wasn’t exactly the Tasmania trip we had planned but travelling around NSW in a van was certainly AWESOME! I plan on writing a blog post about it with more of the details and what we got up to (so watch this space) but wow what an incredible adventure! I definitely fell in love with #vanlife and loved the excitement of pulling up somewhere new each day and looking at things with fresh eyes and a new perspective. Much wine and many beers were had and I certainly asserted my dominance at Monopoly Deal and pool (sorry John). I fell in love, I felt inspired, I felt loved and I felt 110% me. I couldn’t have loved our adventure more and I’m so excited for many more to come.

Shenanigans

As always, here’s some extra pics from the months of Jan and Feb with awesome people.

Books

Ghosts, by Dolly Alderton
Could. Not. Put. It. Down. I absolutely loved this and would recommend it to anyone in their 20’s or 30’s who has been down the crazy dating rabbit hole. It’s the perfect mix of light, emotional, fun and deep. Would absolutely recommend it!

Flicks

Elle
This definitely plays mind games on you but I was absolutely captivated the whole way through. The characters are complex and you’re kept guessing the whole way through as to what will happen next. You can watch Elle on SBS On Demand.

Trial of the Chicago 7
Ooh I absolutely loved this movie! It will make you angry and it will make your blood boil with the injustice of the ‘justice’ system. It’s witty, it’s all over the place and it’s a pretty incredible story you should absolutely check out!

Bump
Oh my god YES!!! This show is awesome. It’s an Australian drama that isn’t (too) cheesy or over the top! The actors are phenomenal and I love how raw and real the aesthetic is. Add this to your list – you’ll love it!

Tunes

Machine Gun Kelly
Under strict instruction from Tishia, Dylan and I sat in her car and listened to this album the whole way through.Who doesn’t love some Blink182 inspired punk rock. If you’re looking for something edgy and grungy then look no further.

Noah and the Whale
Seriously how amazing is this band?! If you’re looking for a pick-me-up and want to be left feeling inspired, jolly and whole, then just chuck on their music in the shower and you’re good to go. They’re an absolute classic and chucking on their bangers will instantly lift your mood.

Product

In January I treated myself to the Sunday Riley UFO oil. I already had their CEO oil and I absolutely loved it so I thought this would be a nice addition to my collection – and boy oh boy was I right. I use this every other night before bed and I’ve found it’s incredibly hydrating and has helped even out my skin tone. Love it!

Sunday Riley - UFO MINI

Well I may be posting this half way through Feb, but I promise to keep on top of my blogging and posting. There’s a lot of exciting big things coming up (like my move to Canberra!) and new job! There’s a lot of change coming which is scary, exciting, nerve wracking and overwhelming. And I’m sure there’s a lot of great times to come! Big love x

These Are A Few Of My Favourite Things: MARCH 2019

Wow, what a crazy month! The year has been flying by but somehow March seemed to go on forever! Perhaps it’s because it was so jam packed with amazing events, incredible people, some ups and downs and a strong reminder of my strength, determination and resilience. The temperatures cooling down and we’re making our way into April (I flippin love April!), but before I get swept up in the whirlwind of life, let’s have a look at the magic of March.

🙈 Arctic Monkeys Australian Tour and Sydney Mardi Gras

When it happens, it all happens at once. And on one magical night in March, I was graced by the presence of the Arctic Monkeys and the dazzling Sydney Mardi Gras. It seems that the Arctic Monkeys have received some mixed reviews from their most recent Australian tour, plus their new album. But I can honestly say that it was one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to! Even their new stuff, which yea, we all know it’s no AM, was incredible. We watched them in Qudos Bank Arena and we were even seated, and I can tell you, we were rocking out to the Monkeys! So. Freakin. Awesome. Alex Turner, you look great on the dancefloor.

Then, it was out to the crazy streets of Sydney, covered in glitter and ready for a boogie. We ended up in Oxford St in the heart of it all. There really is no time like Mardi Gras. Everyone is so happy, accepting and loved up. My favourite part was ending up at a quiet little bar with espresso martinis in hand and watching the world go by. And of course, followed by a kebab! What a great time to be gay.

👗 All About Women Festival

I’ve been wanting to attend this festival for years! And each year it’s seemed to slip right by. But this year I was determined to soak up some female power. It came at the absolutely right time in my life and my feminism journey. I wrote all about my experiences in a post because I felt like I learnt so much and was really challenged in my beliefs and place in the world. I would strongly encourage everyone to attend events and meet new people that challenge you. It’s so easy to get comfortable in our ways, so bring on being uncomfortable and getting out of the comfort zone!

🐚 Jervis Bay roadtrip

Top of my go-to places for this year has been Jervis Bay! And we finally went! There’s nothing like a little day trip to get away from the chaos of life. We stopped of at Gerringong for some brekky, Hyams beach for some white sand and tropical water, Huskisson for some fish and chips, and of course, Berry for some famous donuts! I feel so lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world! Let this be a reminder to get out and explore your own backyard!

❤️💛💚 One Love Reggae Concert

Yep you read that correctly, I spent my Friday night at a reggae concert! There’s nothing like being a little spontaneous and I can definitely agree that a reggae band is probably the most random, but most awesome night you will have! I wasn’t drinking, and despite all the dreadlocks around, wasn’t smoking, but felt high off life, music and the good vibes everyone was vibing! If you ever get the chance – go to a reggae concert! You won’t regret it.

🎶 Tunes

Pasta by Angie McMahon
Angie’s back and she’s brought her A game. I always love some kick ass female rockers, especially with a cool little video clip! I’m hoping this means a new album is on the way!

Old Man by Stella Donnelly
Wow! What an awesome album! I saw Stella Donnelly perform at A Day On The Green last month and was seriously blown away by her stage presence and live show. And now falling in love with her album, gosh I have so much respect for her, her music and what she stands for!

📚 Book

The Trauma Cleaner, by Sarah Krasnostein
I can honestly say that this book was incredibly challenging to read. Not in the way it’s written but the raw nature of the content. As the reader you’re very confronted by your own privilege. This book follows the story of Sandra, a trans woman cleaning up after other people’s mess. This book isn’t just important because of the experiences she shares during her transition to a woman, but her experiences as a sex worker, and a woman during the 80s and 90s. It also shines a light on poverty in Australia, a topic that I personally feel there is little discussion about among the Australian public. You’ll be challenged, but it’s absolutely worth it.

🎥 Flicks

Russian Doll
I smashed out this series very quickly and thought it was smart, provocative and super interesting! Natasha Lyonne plays her character so well and I was totally hooked! Your curiosity will keep you hanging around until the end!

📷 Bloggers, Vloggers and Podders

Bobo and Flex
Yes. Yes. A million times YAAASSS! I absolutely love this podcast! These two gals have opinions and they want us to hear them! They dive deep into sex things that you think you’re not allowed to think. They make you evaluate your sense of self, your spirituality and your hotness. I love how candid their conversation is, and most of all Bobo’s reactions of ‘I am dead. Literally crying.’ (If you listen to the show you’ll know the exact voice she uses!) Absolute must for those independent women out there!

The Guardian’s Longread
This may reveal my inner nerd but I have fallen in love with The Guardian’s Longread podcast. Because unfortunately, I’m a busy gal and don’t always have time to read in-depth investigative journalism. And this podcast reads it to me! It’s a great way to feel informed, educated and in the know with leading issues.

One of the most interesting episodes I’ve listened to is called ‘White Gold: The Unstoppable Rise of Alternative Milks.’ Seriously I cannot stop talking about it so you should go and listen to it right now!

📝 Quote

Something that I kept coming back to this month was being strong and believing in myself. By having faith that I was in the right place, at the right time. I started a new job (a permanent one – what?!) and really believe that this is where I’m meant to be. It’s scary seeing friends move on and move away from their life in Wollongong. It’s even scarier thinking about your future in a place that you love so much, but think there’s maybe more out there for you. That time will come, but it’s funny how I have to keep reminding myself that I’m 24 years young. I have literally my whole life ahead of me. And there’s nothing wrong with taking your time, making the most of what you currently have, and making the most of the opportunities that present themselves to you.

Woah March, you were pretty hectic. Moving in to April, I think I need to make sure I’m constantly checking in with myself and see how I’m doing. It’s so easy to get caught up in life that you forget to take a step back, take a deep breath, and just be. I’m excited for all the awesome things planned for April, but I’m also looking forward to some down time and focusing on me!

These Are A Few Of My Favourite Things: MAY

My my my… May has been FULL ON! Thinking back on the month that has been, I can’t believe how much I’ve managed to squeeze into 31 days! And it’s crazy to think that in *whispers* 25 days… I’m jetting off on my epic adventure. Whilst I’m currently trying to reframe from ripping my hair out (I’ve got 3 x 40% assignments due in the next few days), I’m also getting ridiculously excited for my trip. It’s served as a great motivational tool to get me through these past few weeks of intense uni work. So… it’s that time again when I recap on my favourite things for this month!

Testing out the new GOPRO

I bought a GOPRO

The time came and I finally bought a GOPRO! And OMG I’m in LOVE! Now I’m sure you can read a million reviews about GOPROS online but honestly – I just absolutely love it! It’s small, takes amazing quality photos and videos and motivates you to get out there and take some awesome footage! You can check out a little edit I’ve thrown together about my roadtrip.

ROADTRIP!

Speaking of roadtrip (and if you check out the video above) you can see that I had a pretty good time! I work as a student rep at uni and I was lucky enough to be sent away for a week to represent the uni at various careers markets. Whilst a lot of hard work goes in to these trips, it’s always great when you get a chance to unwind at the beach, go for an adventure or explore a new place after a long day at work.

Lunch with my Grandparents and Family

Because I live about 5hours away from home, I don’t make it home as often as I’d like. And when I do it’s only for such a short amount of time. So I was absolutely ecstatic when my Grandparents called me saying they would be in Wollongong and wanted to have lunch with me. I always love catching up with my family. I’m constantly inspired and reminded of how lucky I am to have such a supportive family who loves and encourages me.

Uni Work

I know this is ridiculously nerdy, but I’ve really been engaged with a lot of my coursework for the past few weeks. I recently wrote an essay about gender inequality in the work force which I was ridiculously passionate about. At the moment I’m half way through making a short video about empowerment and nudity, again, another topic I find really engaging and important. That’s one of the best things about my degree, it’s not just ‘you have to learn this’ but it’s ‘I want to know more about this…’

 Tunes

I think I’ve been driving my housemates absolutely crazy with how much I’ve played this song lately! I have no idea how I came across this amazing tune but I’m definitely not letting it go anytime soon!

Flume you’ve done it again! Providing the goods to pump us up and sing our little hearts out! This song was the soundtrack to my roadtrip, so every time I hear it, I just think adventure!

And just as an added bonus, this is another fave of mine from May. Again, I somehow stumbled across this one on a late night prowl through Youtube and dayum I’m grateful. This song is perfect when you’re winding down after a long day at work and you’ve got a cup of tea in hand!

Films

I don’t usually include films in my ‘favourites’ list – partly because I usually don’t have enough time to watch them but Oh My God this movie is such a laugh! I’m not sure if it’s because it’s too relatable, laugh out loud worthy or the combination of amazing actors but dayum, this is an absolute MUST for anyone trying to figure out how to be single.

A quote I’ve totally been trying to live by this month is the following.. ‘may your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears’ – Nelson Mandela. With all of my adventures just around the corner, I’ve been making some awesome plans and I’m soooooo damn excited. Hopes don’t come without fears, and of course it’s only natural to be nervous, but that’s what life is built on!

Well, June, you’re probably going to disappear way too quickly, so I’m looking forward to smashing out uni and enjoying the time I have left here in Australia before I jet off! I hope your month has been just as wonderful and that June welcomes you kindly.
