A Bit About Myself

“It was only a sunny smile, and little it cost in the giving, but like morning light it scattered the night and made the day worth living.” – F. Scott Fitzgerald

Hi! My name is Adelaide and if you love coffee, travel, daydreaming, reading, music, coffee, dancing, yoga and spreading a little happiness, then I think you and I are going to get along just fine.

Life is short and we’ve gotta embrace what life throws at us. I don’t have all the answers, I’ve fucked up and made mistakes, but most importantly I’m just enjoying this beautiful life and sharing my stories along the way.

And that’s what I hope to do with A Worldly Addiction. To showcase all of the beauty and happiness, but also the disasters, mistakes and hilarious moments that happen along the way. No one’s perfect, life isn’t perfect, so why pretend it is? Let’s be real, gritty, honest and raw, it’s more exciting that way.

I grew up moving around Australia (a lot!). I’m originally from regional NSW and when I was 5, my family and I travelled around Australia for a year in a caravan. I remember walking the banks of crocodile infested rivers, feeding dolphins, patting turtles, walking Uluru, my Dad eating witchetty grubs, accidentally breaking my sisters arm (sorry sis) and my little brother being brought into the world.

We lived in rural South Australia for 4 years with the closest Maccas or Woolworths being 3 hours away. We then moved to Townsville in North Queensland where we encountered actually having to wear proper school uniforms and a whole new level of dangerous animals (hello irukandji jellyfish). After 2 years up there, we moved to Port Stephens where I went to high school and the place I always call home (at least I did).

After high school, I bought a one way ticket to London and lived and worked there for 12 months. It was a pretty epic GAP year. I travelled to 16 countries, with some of my favourite places being Hungary, Iceland and Scotland.

In 2014 I started studying a Bachelor of International Studies/Bachelor of Communications and Media Studies (Deans Scholar) at the University of Wollongong. Throughout my time at uni, I’ve lived at 2 different campuses and 4 different houses, volunteered with AIME, ELEVATE, been apart of numerous clubs and societies, fundraised for education in Sierra Leone and poverty in Cambodia, just to name a few.

In 2016 I did some pretty rad things and started by writing a list of everything I hope to achieve this year.  Then I studied French for a month in La Rochelle and was  joined by my Dad and we travelled around Spain, France and Iceland. In mid-August I arrived in Montreal where I completed an exchange at Concordia University. I travelled to Quebec City, Washington DC, Boston, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Hawaii.

In 2017 I went to Central America and travelled for two weeks around Guatemala, Belize and the coast of Mexico before going to Mexico City to study Immigration and Human Rights.  It was one of the most eye opening experiences I’ve ever had and inspired my thesis that I completed in 2018.

In 2018 I completed my Bachelor of International Studies (Honours) with Second Class, Division 1. My thesis was titled ‘The DREAMers’ American Dreams: The Everyday Experience of Illegality in the US.’ I also commenced working as a digital marketing officer for the Faculty of Law, Humanities and the Arts. I have loved this role as I have been able to pursue all of my social media and creative goals in a bustling professional environment.

One day, you’ll hopefully see me writing for VICE, reporting or investigating for the ABC, SBS, BBC, teaching English in Vietnam or learning Japanese in Tokyo… to be honest, who knows where I’ll end up, but the thing is that I have big dreams and even bigger motivation to accomplish them.

I’m constantly inspired by the people I meet around me. There’s so many incredible people in our beautiful world and I honestly feel so honoured to meet a fraction of you out there. So please, tweet, tag or send me a message because I’d love to hear from you!
