What the heck? I swear I just hit publish on my May Favourite things right?! June has absolutely FLOWN! Winter is well and truly upon us, I finally have an excuse to wear my trackies for days on end and it’s perfect snuggle weather. It’s been emotional, stressful, joyous, exciting and hectic… so let’s take a moment to pause, breathe, and look back on the month that was.
🏠Home Visits
This month I was a tour guide for Soph around Port Stephens, and Soph showed me around her country home town of Leeton. Despite the torrential rain that hailed down from Port Stephens, it was awesome to be home (as always). Heading out to Leeton was pretty damn awesome. For those of you who don’t know (which I had zero idea before going there), it’s about 6-7 hours west of Sydney. It’s a stunning town with lots of charm and the best furniture store for miles! Sometimes it’s just so nice to get away for a little adventure and these few weekends away was exactly what I needed!
💃 Shenanigans
What’s a month without a couple of shenanigans here and there. Another month and some more blurry photos to remind me just how lucky I am to call these beautiful people my friends.
🌲 Sublime
OK so I may have gone a bit overboard this month on the sublime hikes. I just can’t help it! It’s so addictive and you get so competitive with yourself. It hurts, it’s painful, it’s a struggle but damn does it feel good when you reach the top! That’s why I keep on going back and snapping those pictures! Plus it’s a good way to practice your self timer skills!
✨ VIVID
I don’t care how overrated anyone says Vivid is… I FREAKIN LOVE IT! I’ve been every year for 4 years now and it honestly makes me fall in love with Sydney all over again. It’s a great excuse to head out into the big ol city, catch up with beautiful friends, have a drink or two and take some gorgeous photos. It’s always amazing walking among the bright lights and soaking up the creativity and innovation that Sydney has to offer.
🎶Tunes
Courtney Barnett. So it only took me a few years but I’m finally on the Courtney Barnett train. Her new album is incredible and I’ve gone back to revisit her older stuff and wow I have been missing out! The song below makes me want to join a rock band, learn the guitar and belt out those lyrics to a drunk bar. She’s talented, edgy and all round kick ass. It you’re a bit on the edge just give it a go… I promise you’ll thank yourself for it.
George Ezra. Yay! Finally some new music from this deep, mellow voiced guru! I am thoroughly in love with his new album and his voice is smoother than ever! It’s so unique and happy. His music just makes you feel good and sometimes that’s all you need from an album.
5 Seconds of Summer. Guilty confession…. I’d be lying if I didn’t say I love this album! Who would’ve thought? 5 Seconds of Summer. I am not usually one for boy bands but damn their music is so damn catchy! The song below in particular! Oh yea, and I guess they’re maybe a bit cute too….
Florence + The Machine. This red headed goddess can do no wrong! Even though this album was only released a few hours ago, I have had it on repeat and cannot get enough! Funnily enough, I never really got into Florence + The Machine and when I heard she was releasing new music I was pretty impartial. But hearing this song changed everything. She is so powerful yet delicate, fragile yet strong, confident yet vulnerable. I am in AWE! Plus she’s a fair skinned red hear and us women have to stick together! Hello new girl crush!
🎥 Flicks
The Incredibles 2. I’ve waited 14 years for this… need I say more? In all seriousness, this movie was pretty damn awesome. There’s always something special about going to the movies, sneaking in drinks and munching down on some popcorn!
Gaycation. There’s nothing I love more than an entertaining and engaging documentary series. Gaycation is fucking fabulous and imperative that everyone watch it! It’s free to watch on SBS On Demand, and I promise you’ll be binge watching it. If you love travel and culture and are curious about the everyday reality of the LGBTQI community across the world then this is for you. As someone in a same sex relationship, it’s confronting and has challenged me to grapple with my privilege, identity and where I fit in (if I fit in at all). There’s a blog post coming soon so watch this space for more about all things gay. Oh – did I mention Ellen Page hosts the series?! Enough said.
📗Books
I’ve been a little naughty this month and haven’t read any books! #fail
In my defence, I was finishing off my honours coursework and have been galavanting across NSW while working 30 hours a week. That said, I did just order several new books for my research so stay tuned and I promise I’ll be a good little book worm!
📷 Bloggers and Vloggers
Whenever I find myself getting lost in her blog, it reminds me why I started and LOVE blogging so much. I’ll never forget the day I got the chance to meet Brooke and since then her blog has been so special to me. For all of your travellers out there, it’s an absolute must. I love her style of writing and the way she elegantly presents her travels, lifestyle and thoughts. It’s captivating and eternally inspiring.
📝 Quote
This month (as amazing as it was), I found myself upset and struggling to deal with my emotions. (nothing to worry about – in a normal ‘I’m tired and have so much to do but so little time with a pinch of hormonal fury’ way). Nonetheless, I found myself needing to really stop and take a moment for myself. I guess it’s a reminder for myself, and any of you out there that sometimes feel a little down, that it’s OK to feel this way. It’s not the end, it’s not over, god we’ve only just begun this wondrous journey! Sometimes it’s jut nice to know that you’re not alone and that sometimes you need to be alone in order to reconnect with yourself.
Hey June (hehe what a tune!), but seriously, you were pretty awesome but I have a feeling that July will be even more awesome! It’s my birthday month and the month of all things good and fun and amazing! There’ll be a lot of hard work coming my way but it’ll be worth it to reap in the rewards! July – let’s do this!
